Using her own experiences, both as an applicant and a recruiter, Linda spoke to a class of S5 pupils about the importance of personal statements and interviews, whether for university/college applications or for jobs.
Linda led discussions about why we use personal statements and how to make yours stand-out over others, as well as the clichés to avoid. Linda then explored interviews; the different types of interviews used, the best way to prepare for an interview and the things to remember on the day, including what to wear, body language and some questions to ask. The session closed with discussions about what individual strengths and skills each pupil has, and what they should include in their personal statements.
This type of work is incredibly valuable as it informs and prepares the students with realistic experience and expectations. If you would like to get involved in Developing the Young Workforce, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
