Visit to Ninewells & Assist Nursing Students
November 16 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The event is with the University of Dundee School of Nursing and Health Sciences, specifically the Child Nursing team. Currently, this team has a group of volunteers who are retired, who come to Ninewells and work with the 1st year Nursing Students. The Nursing students would get much more out of the experience working with children and are looking to work with pupils under 16 years of age.
The Clinical Skills session is on Friday 16th November at Ninewells from 12.00 until 14.30. The Clinical Skills sessions are for the students to learn how to communicate with young people whilst taking their blood pressure, height and weight (as they would in the admissions process).
The Nursing School has offered a pre-visit for the pupils, so they can see around the hospital and be shown what will happen on the day (bandaging, taking blood pressure, rooms used etc.). The Nursing school are happy to give an age appropriate talk on careers in health care. There would be a risk assessment done by the nursing school for both visits and there is a beneficiary payment given to cover travel costs – this is usually about £5 per pupil.
