Stevie Forrester has had an interest in anything to do with engines and cars from a young age. He completed a 4 year Modern Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Diagnosis, Maintenance and Repairs and now works as part of the RAC Patrol covering a large area in Scotland including Dundee and Angus.

What attracted you to the industry you are in?
An interest from a young age of anything with an engine, especially cars.
How long have you been with the company?
Describe your day-to-day role
No two days are the same! One day I’m repairing a car on the side of the motorway, next i’m recovering someone in the middle of nowhere and then I can be assisting the Police with a road traffic accident.
What kind of training have you done?
A 4 year Modern Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Diagnosis, Maintenance, and Repairs. I have also have Iveco Truck Manufactures Training.
What skills have you learned?
I learn something new everyday!
Have you completed any professional qualifications?
- HGV Drivers License
- Towing License
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Motor Vehicle, Diagnosis, Maintenance and Repairs.
Do you like working in Dundee and Angus?
Fantastic are area to work.
What skills are the most important for you to do your job well?
People Skills and decision making skills (especially when under pressure)
Was there anything about the job that surprised you?
How much i enjoy it everyday. Continuous job satisfaction.
Is there anything unusual about your role?
My office is on wheels!
Do you get a lot of support from your company?
Yes, I get a great mount of support from both colleagues and managers.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
That I get to do what I love on a daily basis, whilst travelling the country.
Did you always want to pursue a career in this industry?
What is your advice for young school leavers looking to start an apprenticeship?
Do it! It is honestly the best thing I have done! The amount of support and guidence given is fantastic and truly sets you up for success!
What is your career goal?
To become a Patrol Team Manager.
